Sony Invites Gamers To Explore New Worlds In The PlayStation 5 Launch Trailer

Sony is weird. Sometimes they have awesome PlayStation ads showcasing upcoming games. Sometimes their ads don’t show any games at all.

Such is the case with the PlayStation 5 launch trailer. It once again reminds us that “Play Has No Limits” but like ‘The Edge’ ad that released a couple weeks ago, it’s all about real people exploring fantasy worlds—none of which are actual games. There’s no gameplay to be seen.

I guess it must be an effective marketing strategy. Like the past ad, it’s imaginative and captures more the spirit of gaming rather than the real thing. We’re immersed in these worlds not just as pixels on a screen, but as the actual characters themselves. Transported into the uncharted galaxies.

I still prefer the trailers that show off actual games, but I get what they’re doing here and it’s not bad.

Oh, and the whole thing is narrated by rapper Travis Scott, who released another PS5 video recently and is apparently going to be the voice and face of the new console, at least for now.

Here’s the ad:

The PlayStation 5 launches on November 12th.

We will have coverage of the new system and its handful of launch titles after release as we have not been provided with any review hardware for reasons that have yet to be explained.

I’m looking forward to next-gen, but I’m grateful it will be mostly backward compatible as there really aren’t many games out on either the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S at launch.

Which one—if any—will you be getting? Let me know on Twitter or Facebook.
